Bachus Named Next Financial Services Committee Chairman

The House Republican Conference has selected Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., to serve as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee for the 112th Congress, which convenes in January.

Bachus has been the ranking Republican member of the committee since January 2007. He was challenged for the committee chairmanship by Rep. Ed Royce, R-Calif., whose candidacy was supported by the Wall Street Journal editorial page and the American Conservative Union. Bachus will replace Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., as the committee chairman.

‘This honor would not have been possible without the support that I have received from my constituents over the years, and I want to personally thank them at this time,’ Bachus said in a press statement. ‘They can be assured that they will receive my absolute best effort.’
