Balboa Site Receives Special Achievement Award

Insurance Group's Catastrophe Manager Web site has received an award for Special Achievement in Geographic Information Systems technology by the Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. (ESRI), the company has announced. Lenders and investors use the Web site to monitor catastrophic events that may pose risks to their portfolios. In 2008, the site covered more than 50 severe events across the country, Balboa says. Company executive Bob James notes that Catastrophe Manager was one of 30 sites selected for the ESRI honor. More than 100,000 sites were nominated. "By embracing geographic information system (GIS) technology, [these] organizations have made extraordinary contributions to our global society and set new precedents throughout the GIS community," adds ESRI representative Matt Perry. "Balboa was selected because their application of cutting-edge technology surpasses what other companies in the financial institutions and insurance category have done." SOURCE: Balboa Insuranc
