In the aftermath of President Obama's Jan. 4 recess appointment of Richard Cordray as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), the law firm Ballard Spahr is hosting a free webinar on Jan. 18 to discuss the controversy behind the appointment and focus on the agency's new regulatory and enforcement powers.
The webinar will feature members of Ballard Spahr's consumer financial services and mortgage banking groups, who will outline the implications of the recess appointment for banks and other consumer financial service providers subject to the CFPB's jurisdiction. The webinar will also speculate on whether the Cordray recess appointment will be challenged in court and will analyze Cordray's pre-CFPB career as a means of predicting what his term as bureau director will entail.
