Ex-Michigan Housing Commissioner Admits To $32K Embezzlement The former executive director of Michigan's Luna Pier Housing Commission plans to plead guilty to charges that she embezzled more than $32,000 in public funds.

According to a report in the Detroit News, Kay Jean Axel was charged with theft in U.S. District Court. Between 2007 and 2010, Axel used commission funds to cover personal purchases.

‘I am regretful of the entire situation,’ Axel said in an interview with the Detroit News. ‘I took a position with the housing commission for which I was not educated and equipped to perform, and I made some mistakes in the process due to my understanding.’

Axel's guilty plea will carry a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.
