Fannie, Freddie Release October Volume Summaries

Government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac published their monthly volume summaries this week, showing that Fannie's gross mortgage portfolio declined at a compound annualized rate of 27.8% in October, while Freddie's total portfolio increased at an annualized rate of 0.7%.

Both companies' delinquency rates have risen in recent months. Fannie's single-family, serious delinquency rate rose 27 basis points (bps) in September (the latest data available) to 4.72%, and its multifamily serious delinquency rate rose 6 bps to 0.62%.

Freddie's single-family delinquency rate for October jumped 21 bps to 3.54%, while its multifamily delinquency rate rose from 0.11% in September to 0.12% in October.
