HUD Awards $500K Grant To El Dorado, Kan.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has awarded the City of El Dorado, Kan., a $500,000 grant that will allow the city and its local partners to include affordable housing as it revitalizes its historic central business district.

The grant is provided through HUD's HOPE VI Main Street program, which is designed to provide financial support to smaller municipalities seeking to expand affordable housing and revitalize older business districts. The city will use the grant to transform two defunct commercial structures, Ellet's Opera House and the Gish Building, into mixed-use affordable housing and retail complexes.
