HUD Offers $96M In Sustainable Communities Grants

HUD Offers $96M In Sustainable Communities Grants The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has announced $96 million in 2011 Sustainable Communities Grants.

Twenty-seven communities and organizations will receive HUD's Community Challenge grants, which are designed to address local challenges to integrating transportation and housing. Twenty-nine regional areas will receive Regional Planning grants, which are designed to support efforts that integrate housing, land use, economic and workforce development, transportation and infrastructure developments.

‘The demand for sustainability grants is very high,’ says Shelly Poticha, director of HUD's Office of Sustainable Housing Communities. ‘We would have needed $500 million to fund all proposals we received this year.’
