Senate Banking Committee Chair Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., has a new challenger to his Senate seat – former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) CEO Linda McMahon.
McMahon, who had been widely rumored to be considering a run for the Senate, is seeking a Republican nomination.
‘I have spent the past 30 years growing what began as a 13-employee small business into a publicly traded, global entertainment company that now provides over 500 jobs here in Connecticut,'' McMahon says, according to a report from the Hartford Courant. ‘I understand what it takes to balance a budget, create jobs and grow the economy."
In announcing her candidacy, McMahon also resigned from her role as WWE's CEO. She joins former Rep. Rob Simmons, state Sen. Sam Caligiuri, former Ambassador to Ireland Tom Foley and Peter Schiff as Republican hopefuls.
