Move over, ‘.com’ and ‘.org’ – the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) is seeking to expand the Internet lexicon with an online domain unique to the credit union industry.
CUNA has announced that it has submitted an application for the ‘.creditunion’ domain name to the Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN). If approved, the ‘.creditunion’ domain would be available to credit unions to supplement or replace their existing Web names.
‘[This] ensures this important identifier will stay in credit union hands and will allow the credit union movement to collectively take full advantage of the next stage of the Internet's development and growth,’ says CUNA President and CEO Bill Cheney, who notes that a recent survey of the CUNA membership found nearly 60% of respondents favored purchasing the ‘.creditunion’ domain name.
