One of the most high-profile commercial property markets in the world is set to have a new green hue.
The Dubai Chronicle reports that mandatory green building rules and regulations on all buildings will begin next year in Dubai. Currently, green building standards are optional for privately owned buildings. Among the local green building rules and specifications will be the mandatory use of energy efficient products in all Dubai buildings, including the installation of solar water heaters.
Dubai's government is also increasing its efforts to educate both property owners and the public on the green building standards. The Buildings Department of Dubai is running an awareness and educational program that includes training courses, seminars, publications and advertisements. An exhibition called ‘My Green Environment’ was held in January to introduce the public to sustainable home building and energy efficiency.
