Feb. 4 Webinar Discusses Possible Voiding Of Cordray Appointment The law firm Ballard Spahr is hosting a free webinar on Feb. 4 to discuss the implications of last week's D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that President Obama's recess appointments on Jan. 4, 2012, were invalid.

Last week's court ruling focused solely on recess appointments made to fill vacancies on the National Labor Relations Board. However, Richard Cordray was appointed as director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by recess appointment on the same day. Although the Cordray appointment was not part of the court ruling, it nonetheless calls into question the legitimacy of his directorship and whether the rules enacted under this leadership will be considered null and void.

The webinar will focus on how the CFPB will react to the ruling, the impact on ongoing investigations and consent orders, and the political impact of the ruling. Alan S. Kaplinsky, practice leader in Ballard Spahr's consumer financial services group, will serve as webinar moderator.

The webinar will be held from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST. Registration is now available online.
