President Bush has signed H.R.2764, a consolidated appropriations bill that, among many other designations, will provide $180 million for grants to counseling intermediaries approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for mortgage foreclosure mitigation activities.

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC) – the largest network of certified housing counselors in the nation and HUD's largest housing counseling intermediary – applauds the bill's signing.

‘The NFCC welcomes this funding commitment and the recognition that foreclosure mitigation counseling makes a real difference in the lives of families and communities in crisis,’ says Susan C. Keating, president and CEO of the NFCC.
