Alden Knowlton has been promoted to associate vice president for political affairs within the Mortgage Bankers Association’s legislative and political affairs team.
Knowlton previously served as director of political affairs, managing and implementing initiatives and strategic goals for MBA’s political advocacy efforts.
Under her direction, MORPAC, the MBA’s non-partisan political action committee (PAC), exceeded its fundraising goals, including setting single-cycle and single-year program fundraising records with over $2.1 million raised in the current cycle – $1.2 million in 2018 alone.
Knowlton, through various communications channels and speaking engagements, also increased the effectiveness of the MBA’s 27,000-member grassroots lobbying network, the Mortgage Action Alliance (MAA), with membership jumping 75% in the last two years and total communications to Congress leaping 350%, the MBA says in an announcement.
Prior to joining MBA in 2016, Knowlton served in various ascending roles in political advocacy and fundraising, including positions at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), Angerholzer Broz Consulting and Sutter’s Mill Fund Raising and Strategy.
Robert D. Broeksmit, president and CEO of the MBA, says Knowlton’s “extensive knowledge, political savvy and passion for public policy has had a major impact on MBA’s advocacy efforts and political fundraising activities.”
Broeksmit adds that Knowlton has helped the association “send a strong, clear and collective message to key policymakers on Capitol Hill on behalf of our industry.”
