William Kooper has been promoted to vice president of state government affairs and industry relations at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), effective April 1.
Kooper, who has served in several different public policy and member relations roles during his 15-year career at the MBA, will now be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the association’s state government affairs program and will serve as the principal staff representative to the State Relations Initiative, the MBA’s strategic program of alignment in advocacy, communications and business development.
“William has played a critical role rebuilding and transforming MBA’s state relations function into a robust organization that not just coordinates and lobbies on state and local legislative and regulatory issues, but identifies and fosters business partnerships that strengthen companies, state organizations, the MBA and the industry as a whole,” says David H. Stevens, president and CEO of the MBA.
Kooper first joined the MBA in January 2001 as director of government affairs. More recently, he served as associate vice president of legislative and political affairs.
Prior to that, Kooper had been appointed special assistant and briefing coordinator to Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary, by President Bill Clinton.
