A new record has been set in New York City's residential real estate market, with the announcement of an $88 million purchase of a luxury condominium.
Forbes.com reports that Sanford Weil, former Citigroup chairman, sold his 6,744-sq-ft apartment at 15 Central Park West for $88 million to Ekaterina Rybolovleva, the 22-year-old daughter of Russian billionaire Dmitriy Rybolovlev. A press statement issued by Rybolovleva's representatives say that she is a Monaco resident who is ‘currently studying at a U.S. university’ and will use the apartment ‘when visiting New York.’
The apartment boasts 10 rooms including 4 bedrooms, a 2,000 square-foot wraparound terrace and two wood-burning fireplaces. Weil has promised to donate the proceeds of the sale to charity.
