Rep. Capito Announces 2014 Senate Bid Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., the chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, has announced that she will run for the U.S. Senate in 2014.

CNN reports that Capito, who was re-elected to her seventh term in the House of Representatives earlier this month, would use her campaign to speed legislative activity in the Senate.

‘The senate has been stalemated – [it] hasn't made progress and I believe I can contribute to moving forward, working together and solving the problems, and I think it's a great opportunity for our state quite frankly,’ Capito said an announcement made at the state capitol in Charleston.

The senate seat in question is currently held by 75-year-old Democrat Jay Rockefeller, who has been in office since January 1985. Rockefeller has yet to announce if he will seek re-election.
