Rob Speyer, president and co-CEO of Tishman Speyer, has been elected chairman of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY), a 12,000-member trade association representing commercial and residential real estate firms in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Speyer’s term will begin in January 2013, and his chairmanship marks the first time in REBNY’s 117-year history that the chairman’s post will be occupied by three succeeding generations of a single family: Speyer’s father, Jerry Speyer, served as chairman from 1986 to 1988, and his grandfather, Robert V. Tishman, held the position from 1972 to 1975.
At 43, Speyer will be the youngest chairman in REBNY’s history. He has served as a member of REBNY’s executive committee since 2004 and as a member of the board of governors since 2001. He will succeed Mary Ann Tighe, CEO of CBRE’s New York Tri-State Region, who was the first woman to chair REBNY.
