San Francisco's Planning Commission has unanimously voted to create the city's first affordable housing development and activities center specifically for seniors within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
The San Francisco Appeal reports that the new 110-unit complex, which will be developed jointly by Mercy Housing California and Openhouse, will also become the country's largest affordable housing development geared toward low-income LGBT seniors. The development is also part of a larger construction project that will include 330 new multifamily rental units developed by Wood Partners.
Construction on the senior housing development is expected to begin in late 2014.
