The U.S. Senate has confirmed Carol J. Galante to become the next commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration (FHA).
The Senate voted 69-24, with seven senators not participating. Galante, who has been acting FHA commissioner for more than a year, will succeed David H. Stevens, who left the FHA in April 2011 to become president and CEO at the Mortgage Bankers Association.
Galante has been part of the Obama administration since 2009, initially serving as deputy assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Multifamily Housing. Prior to joining the administration, she was president and CEO at BRIDGE Housing, specializing in building mixed-income housing.
