Wachovia Corp.'s retail mortgage processing operation in Waterbury, Conn., will be shut down early next year, the company says, putting approximately 65 people out of work.
According to an AP report, the North Carolina-based firm will close the Waterbury office Feb. 27. The closing is attributed to the weakened mortgage industry and general economy. The Waterbury operation underwrites mortgage applications received from Wachovia branches in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.
