The House Democratic Caucus unanimously selected Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., as the ranking Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee.
TheHill.com reports that Waters promised to make housing finance reform her key priority during the 113th Congress, with an emphasis on defending the Dodd-Frank Act from being weakened.
‘Housing finance reform, in particular, will be crucial to ensuring the long-term success and stability of our economy,’ she says. ‘I believe we need a financial system that facilitates economic opportunity and wealth creation for all, and I stand ready to work with my colleagues towards that goal.’
Waters also says she would work with the committee's new chairman, Rep. Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, to ‘reconcile our visions’ during the new Congress.
Waters replaces Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., who is retiring at the end of the current congressional session.
