Audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG has hired mortgage industry veteran Larry Walker as a managing director in the firm's mortgage and consumer lending group.

Walker has more than 30 years of experience in the mortgage banking industry. Prior to KPMG, he served as a senior consultant at Newbold Advisors, where he helped some of the largest mortgage lenders and servicers in the U.S. comply with new regulations and execute operational improvements.

Prior to Newbold, Walker served as president and CEO of the mortgage division of Dallas-based Beal Bank. Earlier in his career, he worked as a managing director at IT company Electronic Data Systems, where he successfully led industry-changing innovations highlighted by the implementation of automated underwriting for U.S. mortgage lenders and the development of Mortgage Electronic Registrations Systems (MERS), an industry-wide utility for tracking and trading lien holder rights.

In his new role, Walker aids in KPMG's efforts to guide clients through the complex consumer credit market landscape. He assists clients in mortgage and consumer lending business process improvement, compliance with new regulations, and transaction execution. He also provides financial institutions with technology and business strategy assistance.

Walker, a master certified mortgage banker, will work out of KPMG's Dallas office.
