The National Foundation for Credit Counseling, a nonprofit credit counseling organization based in Silver Spring, Md., has introduced a Spanish-language version – www.nopierdastuhogar.org – of its online Homeowner Crisis Resource Center www.HousingHelpNow.org.
NFCC notes that its 2007 financial literacy consumer survey revealed that 15% of Latino borrowers do not know the interest rate on their mortgage, and nearly half of all Latino respondents to the survey indicated a desire to improve their financial literacy.
The new site includes direct access to certified Spanish-speaking counselors through either a toll-free hotline or an online locator; a self-diagnostic tool called the Mortgage Reality Check, designed to help homeowners assess their situation and provide steps they are shown to possibly be at risk; and homeowner information and financial tools.
